The clock strikes 5:30am, and my iPhone signals that it’s time to start the day. I always allow for a little time to quickly scroll through emails and my Instagram feed. After getting my phone fix, it’s straight into the kitchen to start the coffee. While I patiently wait for the water to boil, I’m already well into my morning routine, washing my face, brushing my teeth, and putting in my contacts.

Because no morning really begins until caffeine is had, I pour myself a mug of coffee and head to start my makeup. I throw my hair up in a messy bun, pull my caboodle up to the mirror and plop down right in front of it. Being the methodical person I am, I go through my makeup routine the same way each and every day! I keep the overall look pretty basic and neutral during the workweek. I use a mix of neutral eyeshadows, apply a thin line of black eyeliner and finish with a minor cat eye flick. Mascara has always been one of my favorite cosmetics to apply. I grab for a new favorite, Covergirl’s Super Sizer and after a quick curl I apply a few coats to my top and bottom lashes. During the summer I like to incorporate a lighter foundation and usually reach for a BB Cream that has both sunscreen and primer in one.

My skin is always keeping things interesting and never ceases to reveal a minor blemish. With a dab of concealer all is smooth again and I’m on to wrapping things up with a few finishing touches. A contour of bronzer and a rosy brush of blush seal the deal. Depending upon what I’ll be doing that day, my hair is either up or down. Since most of the time I’m commuting, running errands downtown, and meeting friends for dinner or drinks I wear my hair back or braided. As of late I’ve been loving experimenting with different braided styles. My go-to is a Dutch braid, I have an easy tutorial here.

Before jumping into my braids, I spray a little dry shampoo and add a touch of John Frieda  towards to ends of my hair. This keeps my locks looking new with plenty of shine. My work environment is thankfully very casual so most of the time I’m in jeans and flats. Since my attire is pretty relaxed I like to dress up my outfits with bold jewelry. I have a few favorite accessories that I rotate throughout the week, and typically can be seen wearing a few gold rings, and a watch since I’m always running a few minutes behind. Just before heading out the door, I always add a touch of lipstick and a spritz of perfume, then I’m off to embark on the day! How do you start you day? Do you stick to a routine or schedule?
