4 Ways to Get Outdoors this Fall

So many of us associate fall with the arrival of PSL, scented candles, and snuggling up with a good book, but in my eyes spending time outdoors may be the best thing about the new season! Fall has always been my favorite time of year, I love the crisp morning air, the ombre hues of tree leaves, and taking the time to move my exercise routine outside. Whether you’re in search of the perfect excuse to enjoy the new season or simply looking to embrace new habits, I’ve rounded up my four of my favorite ways to get outdoors this fall.

1. Take a Hike (walk, jog, or stroll): What better way to enjoy the change in season than to take your exercise outdoors. Living in California, the months of September to October bring some of the most beautiful weather. This makes outdoor running a must, especially since the temperature is mild and doesn't get too warm! Kev and I love to head to the foothills or the reservoir for a quick morning hike to enjoy the gorgeous views.

2. Pick a Place and Go: It’s one thing to explore your surroundings during a new season, but it’s even better to take day-trip to a new location. I’ve always loved heading up and down the California coast to sleepy little beach towns like Bodega Bay or Mendocino. If you decide to take the weekend to explore be sure to pick a place where to can start a fire and snuggle in for the evening.

3. Go Wine Tasting: As if my weekend travels to the Napa Valley we’re enough of an indication, we love to wine taste! The Napa Valley is absolutely beautiful this time of year and provides the perfect scenic backdrop to do some tasting. One of our favorite places to have lunch is Rutherford Hill, their picnic area offers the most stunning views of the valley below.

4. Dine Alfresco: Some of the best memories are made right at home. In the early fall, we take a lingering sunset as an opportunity to eat on the patio or enjoy a cocktail. Even when I lived in my small apartment we’d eat at a small bistro table on my tiny balcony and talk until the sun went down. If you don’t happen to have a backyard, you could also pack up a light dinner and head to the park, just remember to pack a cardigan for when things get chilly.
