This time of year always seems to throw people for a loop. You know, the time between the end of summer and fall that seems to fluctuate between warm afternoons and cooler evenings? Due to the unpredictable weather, getting dressed and deciding what to wear can be a challenge in itself.
The Midi Dress
Even with summer not officially ending until mid-September, there still plenty of time to embrace dresses. The key to purchasing dresses that can transition into fall is all in the choice of fabric and length. For me, I prefer to invest in fabrics like cotton and store lighter blends of linen or rayon. A cotton midi-dress in a neutral color tone will extend your wardrobe more than you think! The options to layer, accessories or dress up this basic staple are endless and really will give you more longevity as you transition into the fall season.
Plaid
One of the easiest ways to embrace the fall vibe is to invest into one of the top trends of the season, plaid! Whether styled in a long line coat like the one pictured or a two-piece suit this is one print you’ll be reaching for time after time. I personally love that this Blazer Midi Coat (by Mural) features a relaxed wide notched lapel and double-breasted buttons, which is very menswear inspired. The blazer is lined and fits true-to-size which makes it a reliable outerwear choice to layer or wear solo with a pair of leather leggings.
Dad Shoes
This was one shoe trend that caught my attention from the get go! I absolutely love any trend that features sneakers. Not only are they incredibly comfortable and reliable, but when styled with dresses it gives off a carefree vibe that is incredible style. While there are a ton of great options with this style at Nordstrom I personally fell hard for the Air Max 97 Sneaker by Nike. Believe it or not, they were originally designed in the late 1990s, which totally takes me back to my style roots.
Small Leather Bags:
Gone are the days of lugging around huge oversized totes and handbags. This season is all about compact styles that are classic in design. While I’m personally holding out for the Mansur Gavriel backpack, I’ve had a leather mini on hand that I’ve been wearing in the meantime. These minimalist style are great for those who may be commuting for work or prefer to be hands-free when on-the-go! I’d suggest opting for a neutral shade, like black, cognac, or red so you can easily style it with a deeper fall color palette.
Acrylic Earrings
Some trends are sure to see themselves through summer and well into the fall season. Acrylic jewelry is definitely a standout when it comes to accessorizing. This 90’s-esque take on oversized earrings is a chic way to set yourself apart this fall. Geometric styles are both artful and fun and allow you to embrace a funky side of style. I personally love styles that feature a mix of tortoiseshell and color. So next time you stop by Nordstrom make sure to have a stroll through the jewelry department to see their latest styles!
