Backyard Shed Makeover - Moodboard

This post was written in partnership with Wayfair!

Happy Friday! Last week I introduced our latest backyard project, our storage shed! When we moved into our home a few years ago, I dreamed that it would be the answer to our lack of interior space. It’s roughly 10x10 and could potentially double as another room if needed. But instead, we’re simply addressing the exterior to try and tie it into our preferred modern aesthetic and give it some love!

In today’s post, I’ll share my moodboard for the space and some of the projects we’ll be utilizing on the exterior.

Modern Black Backyard Shed

Ever since we moved in, I knew I wanted to tackle the shed. It’s solid but needs some attention and TLC. I’m sure it hasn’t been painted since the original homeowners moved in, and it shows. The paint is peeling and, as a result, adds to the severe lack of appeal. I won’t go into details about the interior just yet, but I have plans for it! My goal with this project is to create a space that coincides with the rest of the yard. I’m hoping to complete this project in 3-weeks, working on it when the weather and my work schedule allow.

The first step to getting the shed ready for paint is prep. I’ll be applying a light pressure wash to remove any dust, dirt, and peeling paint and then removing weeds around the exterior. I’ll be going with a matte black shade for the paint color to match the other doors within the house (Tricorn Black.)

For styling purposes, we’ll finish laying rock around the shed’s exterior, clean up any weeds, and add some new outdoor styling pieces. Since this area is next to the play structure, it’ll serve as a hang-out for Kev and me. We currently have a bistro table in that area that I’m also going to be painting! We’ll string bistro lights across in a zig-zag pattern stretching from the corner of the house. It’ll add coziness to this part of the yard and make it feel more intentional. Even with a large tree in the corner, this area will still need additional shade. I’m looking to add an umbrella with a modern feel so we can enjoy lunch or an afternoon glass of wine without dying of heat!
