Fall Porch Project

What it is about the fall season that makes me want to get my curb appeal into ship-shape? I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way. Maybe some of my need to get our front porch in order comes from spending more time at home. Regardless, I’m determined to finally give the front porch the attention it deserves with a series of weekend DIY projects.

While we’ve put considerable time into getting our landscaping in order, our raise porch hasn’t been updated since we removed our railing last year. I love the look and style of open-front porches. I find them to be inviting and they can give smaller homes like ours a larger appearance. My plan for phase one of this fall porch project is to lay herringbone brick webbing. The materials are very intuitive to use and will give our home a much more elevated look than the peeling paint which is currently showing.

The next project on the agenda will be bulking up the three posts that support our porch overhang. Currently, they look sad and thin. Once we frame out our old skinny porch pillars I plan to keep the wood tone as natural as possible, so most likely we’ll plan on using a sealant matte finish to match our fence.

This coming weekend I’m hoping to knock out a few prior projects like finally painting out the front exterior door to match the inside (Tricorn Black) and adding the new hardware that’s been sitting in our garage for months (oops!) Be sure to follow the progress on Instagram stories.
