Fireplace Makeover Moodboard

We’re on to our next mini home project, a makeover to our fireplace! With our home style going towards a more organic modern approach, I want to update some original finishes. The fireplace was one area that kept appearing dated next to the rest of our home decor and additions. With this in mind, I set out to create a more streamlined look that will utilize natural finishes for a more cohesive look. The brick fireplace will receive a thin coat of cement, while the built-ins will have new shelving and arches. The grasscloth will stay put, and we’ll find accessories to compliment this new look! A future project such as new warmer hardwood flooring will continue to bring warmth back into this space! Keep reading to see how to achieve this organic modern fireplace look!

How to Achieve the Look

The fireplace mantle has been a project I've wanted to work on for a while! Our last update was a year ago when I white-washed the fireplace bricks and painted the insert. The overall look still needed work and was (in my opinion) a little too close to the farmhouse style than our preferred organic modern approach. With that in mind, I want to add more robust textured finishes and a more streamlined process toward accessorizing. We will be adding nickel gap to the shelves for added depth and replacing the original white shelving with light pine. Another project on the agenda is concealing the bricks with cement board. Next, I will add a thin layer of cement for an organic look that coincides with the rest of our home.

With the holiday season in full swing, I plan to decorate as usual and accentuate the long fireplace mantle with garland and Christmas stockings. In addition, the wood shelves will be accented with stone Christmas decoration for a fresh take on the season! I plan to keep the color palette neutral and add earth tones throughout my decor.

Stay tuned for the reveal next week!

Cheers,

Kelly
