How to Wear Non-Maternity Clothes While Pregnant

So much of my pregnancy fashion journey has been finding ways to wear things I already own (or could continue wearing postpartum.) While there are plenty of great maternity clothing brands for 2nd-3rd trimester I find that they don’t offer fashion-forward options. Now, I’m not saying I’m in search of any crop-tops, or unrealistic (be it unflattering) silhouettes, but more so items that aren’t generic or appear to be too matronly. Being that I am still 29-years-old, I still want to be able to express my desire to dress fashionably while also accommodating my growing bump.

What Size Do I go with?

It’s easy to get lost in sizing! For me, I’ve found sizing up in non-maternity clothing to be my best bet. Sometimes I need to go up two sizes or even size down to my pre-pregnancy size (this is always a nice little surprise.) The bottom line here is to not think twice about the number on the tag, if it fits well and you like how you feel in it then that's all that matters! My best advice is to do an in-home try-on and place an order with multiple sizes. This way you can comfortable try on various items and not feel the pressure of a crammed dressing room! At the end of your try-on simply return the pieces that didn’t work for you.

Where Should I Shop?

This is totally up to you and what clothing retailers best reflect your personal style. If I were to describe what trends I gravitate towards most, it’s casual, bohemian silhouettes with a classic feel. For this reason I target sites like Free People, Amazon, ASOS, American Eagle, and occasionally Nordstrom or Anthropologie. Aside from Amazon most of these sites do not cater to maternity fashion so keep this in mind when selecting pieces that will work for you!

What Silhouettes to Shop For?

It’s all up to you! Some people like to highlight their bump, while others would prefer to dress as normal. I’ve opted to take to showing off my bump, I prefer the silhouettes that I choose to be fitted or at the very least accommodating of my growing belly.
