Modern Covered Pergola Reveal
Thank you to Safavieh for kindly gifting the product for this outdoor space!
Phase 2 of the backyard makeover is in the full swing! We’ve officially check off our first project, the deck pergola dining and lounge space. You may remember that we tackled some of this space last spring, where we painting the deck and invested in our patio conversation set. If you haven’t checked out that post, you can see it linked here!
The key purpose of this project was the need for additional space in the summer. In addition, we wanted the deck to be an extension of our indoor living space and therefore needed to invest in a pergola to provide shade for the warmer spring and summer months. To hear more about this outdoor patio project, keep reading!
Modern and streamlined outdoor pergola
When it came time to look into purchasing a pergola for the deck, we kept running into issues with the overall sizing and style of the premade models on the market. We wanted a modern pergola that would compliment our white deck and existing outdoor furniture. Most of the pergolas that we liked either had serious construction issues (or so the reviewers noted) or weren't available in the size we needed.
Most of the available options were standard square sizing which our deck could not accommodate—leading us to check out a more customizable option. Toja Grid checked all the boxes and had great reviews to match. It was more customizable and helped keep the tailored look we were searching for. If you have any questions about which model we selected or would like a dedicated post around the construction, feel free to comment below. I also have several Instagram stories sharing the build on our Phase Two backyard highlight.
Modern Black & White Patio Furniture
Styling is always my favorite part of any project, and this outdoor dining space was no exception! We wanted an outdoor dining chair that coincided with our preferred aesthetic and was durable enough to withstand the elements. I was very impressed with the quality of our conversation set by Safavieh and knew they'd be the perfect furniture company to partner with for this space.
We ended up selecting the Burke Arm Chair by Safavieh. Six contemporary chairs go perfectly with our custom wood table. The black wicker construction and rounded arms are the perfect mixes of comfort and style. The Cream Bermuda Collection (BMU811A) rug is underneath the outdoor table and chairs. The 9' X 12' rug size helps define the dining space and gives a beautiful contrast to the darker tone of the table and chairs. Given the outdoor envrionment, I wanted to select a rug that would give off a subtle pattern and blend in with the set color pallet.
It feels great underfoot and is the perfect anchor to the space!
When I created my moodboard for this outdoor dining space, I knew the styling would include a series of hanging baskets! I love the California-cool influence of this styling and feel like it gives the area a casual approach. I used thick woven rope to hang these and looped them around the center of the TOJA Grid. For lighting, I used re-chargeable lightbulbs when additional light is needed.
Bistro hanging lights provide ample mood lighting and set the tone for a relaxing outdoor lounge space.
The seating area is now a great place to lounge and has plenty of room for family and friends. The Celeste Modern Concrete Round end table provides additional space for drinks and continues to build upon the entertaining outdoor space we were looking to create!
We wanted to keep the space fresh and open and opted to use two large sphere containers to hold our jasmine vines(Safavieh Kenslia Planter.) The black orb shape gives a beautiful juxtaposition against the white deck! My hope is that the jasmine vines will begin to grow on the pergola!
