Must-Have Linen Separates for Summer

It’s no surprise that linen is a must-have essential in any summer wardrobe. If I could wear linen separate all season long, I definitely would! Not only do they keep you cool, but they also are timeless and contribute to one chic wardrobe. In reflecting on my own seasonal wardrobe, I wind up wearing a smaller collection of items on repeat (similar to a capsule collection) and sprinkle in new pieces along the way. It’s truly amazing how many outfits you can build off of a few staple linen garments. This is why I always opt to purchase these in standard colors like white, beige, and black (basic is sometimes better!)

Over a Bathing Suit: One of my favorite ways to wear linen pants is with over a one-piece bathing suit. The look is easy-breezy and is as carefree as it comes when dressing for summertime. I normally wind up wearing a version of this throughout any warm-weathered trip, which is why I always travel with these wide-legged linen pants. At under $60 dollars a pair they’re a steal for the amount of times you’ll wear them, not to mention they’re available in both petite and plus sizing.

Espadrilles: Another classic summer staple is the espadrille sandal or shoe. It’s another unisex item that will pair will most items in your closet. I think a wedged espadrille similar to these pairs perfectly with a white summer dress or skirt.

A Button-Up Shirt: A close-second linen favorite is the button-up shirt. When I say this goes with literally EVERYTHING I mean it! From tied and tucked into your favorite pair of denim cut-offs to styled unbuttoned with a bikini it’s a separate you’ll wear all season long. This style is also a great staple men to have as well, and is the perfect solution to keeping cool on vacation! As a bonus you could also borrow your man’s linen shirt and wear that as a cover-up!

Linen Duster or Longline Cardigan: A piece that will take you from spring-to-summer and is a no-brainer when it comes to investing in a quality brand. I pretty much live in my tan cardigan year-round and it may very well be one of my most worn items. This tan duster has pockets and is under $40, it’s super soft and washes/wears well so you won’t need to be over careful with the fabric care.
