Since moving to our new home in the burbs we’ve been slowly designing each room to fit our personal style and needs. I’ve always dreamed of having a designated work space, so when we had a spare room we agreed that we could utilize it as an office. For months it sat as a catch-all for wedding stuff, moving boxes, and who knows what else. Rather than putting it off any longer, I thought it only right that I kick off the new year by officially decorating the space so it not only looked good but, also functioned as an office.
 

The general style we gravitate towards when decorating definitely has a modern, bohemian feel, so keeping that in mind I started to pull inspiration images of artwork, colors, and prints. Normally, I naturally go towards a cooler palette, but for some reason, many of the images were much brighter in hue. From here I designated a complimentary Color Collection from HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams called Future Thinker. The palette shared a warmer vibe, with a few shades that emerged from my mood board, including black, marigold, and orange. One of the main predicaments with the space is the angled roofline and general small square footage. Since the roofline angles down, I knew I wanted to focus on creating a statement or focal wall rather than attempting to paint the entire space. I’ve always wanted to experiment with a shade of black paint, so I selected Domino (SW6989), a color from the HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams Future Thinker Color Collection. The color itself is a moody black, maybe even a little closer to a deep-dark grey. I decided to pull a pre-existing pattern from the space and mirror the stripes from the bench cushion on the entry wall. To emphasize the 9 ½ ft. high ceilings I opted to create vertical lines over horizontal. Once my design plan was set I headed to Lowe’s to pick up the HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams INFINITY Interior Paint and Primer in Domino (SW6989), Purdy brushes and rollers, and a few other painting tools.

The most time-consuming step of my painting process was tapping the straight lines. To ensure they were straight, I started by measuring with a level starting from the ceiling down to the baseboard. After reading a different article, I opted to go with an odd number of lines to give the wall more interest. I’m so glad I purchased a mix of Purdy brushes and also a small roller, this allowed me to get crisp and clean lines and also move a bit quicker to fill in the larger space.
 

After my entry wall had been painted, I went to work on decorating the space. Overall, I decided to keep the larger furniture pieces and rearrange them in the room to create a better flow. I moved my desk closer to the window and moved my storage cabinet to the mirroring wall. This gave the illusion of wider room and also freed up a dead space that I hadn’t been using. With my mood-board as a guide, I picked up new pillow covers, added organizational essentials, and brought in new artwork.

I couldn’t be happier with the way the project turned out! I’m already finding myself wanting to spend more time in the space. Having the stripes painted on the entry wall is by far one of my favorite features, it adds interest and reminds me of our travels to Palm Springs!
