Philly Cheese Sandwiches

What reminds us of home more than comfort food? This past weekend while visiting my parents I indulged in one of our favorites, the philly cheese sandwich. Now, I know this isn't the "traditional" style but, it is an insanely delicious take on the flavorful classic.

I previously blogged about the here, but thought I'd share the updated recipe with you!

Caramelized Onions & Peppers:

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 medium yellow onions, halved and sliced paper thin (about 4 cups)

1 Red Bell Pepper {julienne}

Kosher salt

Freshly ground black pepper

Directions:
Melt the butter in a large frying pan over medium-low heat until foaming.

Add the onions and peppers, and let them cook, stirring occasionally until they are deep golden brown and caramelized, about 35 minutes. Season well with salt and pepper, remove from the pan, and let cool.

Roast Beef:

Johnny's French Dip Au Ju {a couple splashes}

1/2 lb. Roast Beef {deli sliced - not packaged!}

Directions:

On a hot grill add sliced roast beef and cook until the beef turned a shade darker, and the edges start to crisp. When beef is almost done add the few splashes of the french dip au ju, this adds tremendous flavor!

Assemble sandwiches on toasted french loafs, spread a thin layer of mayo on one half {optional}. When beef is ready add to the other half and top with jack cheese. Add caramelized onions and peppers and enjoy!
