French Toast
I seriously couldn't remember the last time I had enjoyed a decadent breakfast of french toast. The thick slices of cinnamon bread dipped in a delicious mixture of egg, milk and assorted spices is enough to make anyone's mouth water.
Over the weekend my lovely mother was kind enough to treat me to the delicious breakfast you see before you. Although, I'm usually not a fan of ultra rich food in the morning, this dish is definitely the exception to the rule!
Ingredients:
- 3 Eggs
- 1/2 Cup Milk
- 1/2 Cup Half & half
- 4-6 slices Thick-cut Bread {not fresh!}
- 1/4 Tsp Cinnamon
- 1 Tsp Butter
Directions:
The recipe itself is pretty simple, its the bread that you use that makes all the difference. You want to start with a thick cut bread {if cinnamon, its even better}, the thicker cut will absorb more of the liquid and give you a fluffier toast. Another trick to getting the best results is to use bread that is a few days old to stale.
Next, prepare the wet ingredients, whisk eggs, milk, half & half and cinnamon is a low pan or bowl. Melt butter in a large pan over low-medium heat. While butter is melting dip bread slices in mixture allowing time for the bread to fully absorb {about 30 seconds each side}. Transfer soaked slices into pan and cook until golden brown, about
3-5 minutes each side. Serve with a dusting of powered sugar or maple syrup!
