The Best Beaches to Visit in San Francisco

See this content in the original post

Were the type of people who prefers sunsets to sunrises, wine to beer, and yes, the beach over the forest. Living in San Francisco and only 5 minutes away from the beach, Kevin and I would always take advantage of beautiful weather whenever possible. I mean who can say no to sharing a glass of chilled Decoy Sauvignon Blanc while taking in the Golden Gate Bridge? Answer, not many! Being that we are used to the lingering fog, the past few weeks of sunshine and heat have been an absolute treat. One of my favorite things about living in the city was the proximity to everything. Depending on where your located or visiting I’d definitely suggest checking out one (or more) of these beaches the next time you're in the San Francisco!

Baker Beach

California Coastal Trail,
San Francisco, CA 94129

Being that this was our neighborhood beach I’m a bit bias. I love that it’s smaller than some of the larger destinations like Ocean Beach or Crissy Field. The vibe during the week is pretty relaxed and mellow, especially if it's not super sunny. This is what makes it the perfect destination for picnics, sunset walks, or in our case the perfect location to enjoy Decoy Wine . Another bonus is the beach is dog-friendly and really accommodating for all ages, even on busier weekends most people are respectful and pick up after themselves.

There are also a TON of running and walking trails that surround the area, most likely because of the unobstructed views of the Golden Gate, which fun fact, is where we shot our Christmas card a few years back! It truly is breathtaking and somewhere I’d highly suggest checking out, even if just for an afternoon walk.

OCEAN BEACH

San Francisco, CA 94121

Before moving to San Francisco, Ocean Beach was our spot! Kevin lived just up the street so we were always there on weekends with friends. The one thing we love most about Ocean Beach is the ability to have bonfires (seasonal). Even though snagging a coveted fire pit can be tricky it’s a blast to do with with a big group friends. The proximity is pretty close to great dining, such as Park Chalet, The Cliff House, Lou’s and also Seal Rock. This beach is definitely HUGE and one that attracts its fare share of people. The waves can also get a bit large, so if you’re looking to do some swimming be sure to pay attention to the tides or rip-tide warnings.

China Beach

San Francisco, CA 94121

China beach is the lesser known beach of the two already mentioned. Nestled between Baker Beach and Lands End's it's a great alternative if you're looking for a quieter experience. It can be a bit tricky to find if you're not familiar with the Sea cliff Area, but once you find it, it's only a short hike down to the sand. The views are just as beautiful from here as they are from Baker but, you won't be able to bring your pup, as its strictly dog free.
