Winter Wine & Holiday Movie
 Pairings

Is there anything better than curling up on the couch (or pillow fort) and watching a movie? This is hands-down my favorite winter date night idea, and one Kev and I partake in often.  The dinner portion of this date night could go two ways. A comfort meal whipped up by the two of you; or, getting take-out from your favorite restaurant. Since moving from the city we hardly ever order from Postmates (meal delivery) anymore – so this is much more of a treat.

We normally set up shop in the living room once the food has arrived and carve out a cozy corner to enjoy our meal and a glass of wine (I’ll be opting for Hot Chocolate.) Of course, the movie aspect of this is date night is an essential part to the equation. As much as I love Netflix my one peeve with it is that you can’t search for holiday movies – so annoying! Since I’ve already watched my fair share of flix this month I’ve rounded up the top holiday movies.

HOLIDAY MOVIE

  • Love Actually - Rent Here: By far one of my all time favorite holiday movies! It’s funny to me because, Kevin hadn’t seen it up until last year!! This is the perfect date-night movie and perfect to be served up with a full-bodied red, like Cabernet Sauvignon.

  • The Holiday - Rent Here: Part LA / Part England this tale of two loves is another favorite around the holidays. I’d opt for a more well-rounded red like Barbera for your viewing.

  • Four Christmases - By far a laugh out loud comedy with a well-rounded holiday twist. We always find easy comedies to be best accompanied with a Red Blend Wine.

  • A Christmas Story - Rent here: Obviously, no holiday movie round up is complete without the classic! This family-favorite is perfect for all generations and usually plays on repeat Christmas day making it a no brainer for morning mimosas or evening Champagne.

  • Home Alone - Rent Here: I’m guessing you’ll already be ordered a large combination when watching this one so best to pick up a bottle of Merlot to wash it down. ( a full-bodied red will pair perfectly with a meat pizza!)

  • Die Hard - Rent Here - Guess whose movie recommendation this was (hint, not Kelly.) But, for Kevin’s sake I’ll take in an action movie to break up all the holiday happiness. A debatable holiday movie requires a debatable wine, so what better wine to uncork than Cabernet Franc!
