How to Throw the Ultimate Patio Picnic
This post was written in partnership with Day Owl Rosé, all opinions are 100% my own. This is intended for audiences who are 21+.
Raise your hand if this winter has you yearning for warmer weather? If you’re anything like us, you’re already planning lingering evenings to spend on the patio. With only a few weeks until spring officially makes its debut we’ve teamed up with Day Owl Rosé to help you plan the ultimate patio picnic. We’ve taken the guesswork out of gathering a to-do list and prepared a step-by-step guide to help you put together what we’d consider to be a successful late-afternoon gathering. Complete with Day Owl pairings and an impressive set-up that’ll have you receiving compliments all season long!
Pick a place:
The destination is ultimately up to you, and can really be anywhere of your choosing, just as long as the location permits alcohol and has access to a table set-up. For us, this place happens to be our own backyard! We’ve begun to make improvements to our landscaping over the past month and are ready to reap the rewards of our time and efforts.
Choose your Beverage:
Warmer weather can only mean one thing; enjoying a glass of crisp, fruit-forward Day Owl. This rosé pairs perfectly with just about everything thanks to its notes of floral red fruit and vibrant orange zest, this is a true crowd pleaser if I’ve ever tasted one. We personally prefer rosé wines like Day Owl that are lighter in overall color and exude more of the bright and citrusy attitude of the Barbera varietal (just ask Kevin, it’s my favorite!) Barbera is an Italian varietal that’s best enjoyed young (like, now). The dark cherry, dried strawberry, plum, lavender and vanilla flavors create a refreshing beverage that is perfect for a late afternoon gathering, even if it’s just two of you!
When serving drinks outdoors we always use patio-proof glasses to avoid any breakage that could potentially occur. These shatterproof, stemless glasses are incredibly affordable and provide easy clean up after your picnic comes to an end.
Light Bites:
Since this is more of a “picnic” we prefer to nibble on an array of cheeses, meats, and accompaniments. You really don’t need to go overboard when it comes to snacks, a good mix of charcuterie will keep you and your appetite satisfied.
Ambiance:
The atmosphere of your space is just as important as the location. We’ve added touches throughout the yard to introduce a fun, inviting ambiance, including string lights, comfortable patio furniture, and assorted outdoor throw pillows.
Anyone who knows me knows how much I enjoy a curated playlist. I have such a great time putting together a collection of songs to better enhance the overall mood. Typically, I’ll put together a Spotify playlist and stream the music through our outdoor speaker. If you’d like to see the playlist I put together for this event you can stream it here.
