Meal Hacks To Make At Your Next Summer BBQ
This post has been sponsored by Reser’s Deli Salads. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Have you ever looked at the time and wondered how the day went by so fast? These days often result in a rush to quickly think of something to make for dinner. Rather than running to Safeway and throwing a bunch of things into your cart, why not stock the pantry and fridge with essentials to have on hand throughout the week. From fresh produce to Reser’s Deli Salads and easy to grill proteins, these pantry staples will help you hack your way to a delicious and easy impromptu BBQ in no time!
FROZEN PROTEINS ARE JUST AS GOOD!
Frozen proteins are a total no brainer and can kick off a last-minute meal in no time. Safeway’s frozen proteins are always a stop on my shopping trips. Whitefish or shrimp are mild enough to be pan-fired or thrown on the grill for a quick meal. When in doubt, chicken breasts are perfect for marinating and can be incorporated into pretty much any meal. We often purchase chicken in bulk and freeze for other occasions.
A recent favorite of our family is shredded BBQ chicken sandwiches. This meal couldn’t be simpler to make and is perfect for even the smallest members of the family.

WINE
Wine is a must for sipping and adding to your meals. Wine adds a depth of flavor that can take your dishes to the next level. Proteins like fish, shrimp, and even sautéed chicken are delicious when cooked with white wine. I’d recommend purchasing a dry white wine for its flavor properties.
FRESH VEGETABLES
During the summer, fresh vegetables are all the rage in our house! From delicious Brentwood corn to mixed baby greens and heirloom tomatoes. The great thing about seasonal veggies is that they're delicious as is. All they take is a quick dash of salt and pepper, and most are good to go. On busy weekdays when the weather is warm, I’ll often boil or grill extra corn to have on hand during the week. Corn can easily be removed from the cob, chilled, and thrown into salads or enjoyed as is.
PREMADE SALADS
Sometimes the hardest part of putting together a balanced meal is figuring out what to pair with your protein. Reser’s Deli Salads are packaged and ready to serve; no recipe or prep needed. These premade salads are the perfect meal solution for dinners, picnics, and backyard BBQs this summer. They allow us to spend less time prepping in the kitchen and more time together as a family. Our go-to variety is their classic Potato Salad, it's balanced and pairs perfectly with grilled proteins! Look for the red lid in the deli department at your local Safeway or Albertson’s family of stores.
EASY SAUCES
What is a BBQ spread without a good sauce? Our family always keeps simple spreads on hand when grilling or enjoying proteins. These days store-bought barbecue sauces are every bit as tasty as homemade (and take half the time!)
When in doubt, purchase a quality oil and balsamic vinegar! Olive oil is so often overlooked when in actuality, it can impart incredible flavor. Vinegar can be critical to marinades, dressings, sauces, and so much more. A drizzle of balsamic vinegar and a touch of finishing salt can be a delicious combination if you happen to be out of salad dressing.
SIMPLE SIDES
Dry grains are often sold in bulk and have a long shelf life. For this reason, rice or similar dry grains (even beans) are staples for your pantry. We typically keep a few different varieties to act as a base or side for our meals. Long grain rice, such as jasmine, is pretty fool-proof and compliments even the simplest of menus.
With much more time at home, we’re finding ourselves spending and celebrating the little things, like enjoying dinners outdoors. Even when times are unsettling, there is always a way to find a silver lining! How is your family spending the summer season?
