Late July is all about long days, night swims, and plenty of poolside sipping! When it comes to making delicious drinks for a crowd, I always turn to wine cocktails. Not only are they easy to produce, but they’re generally perfect for pairing with fresh fruit and herbs. When my friends gets together, we love to mix up a batch of sangria, and as much as I enjoy the lingering Spanish flavors, it can take hours to prep. Since free-time is hard to find I’ve worked with Sutter Home to create a satisfying wine cocktail that takes half the time.
The key to this cocktail is making the ice cubes ahead of time. I like to make these in batches and have them chilled in the fridge for later use. Typically, I have a bottle or two of Sutter Home in my kitchen, which pairs perfectly with this recipe. Their wines are perfect for summertime entertaining and with so many varietals, there's always something to satisfy every palate. My favorite way to mix up this cocktail is with Sutter Home's Cabernet Sauvignon, but you could easily change things up with another one of their wines.
RECIPE
- 1 bottle Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon, chilled
- ¼ C Orange liqueur
- 3-4 infused ice cubes
- Strawberries, hulled
- Mint
ICE CUBES: Remove lower leaves of mint, about 5 leaves, chop and set aside. Puree fresh, hulled strawberries adding in small amount of water (about a ⅓ C). The consistency should be thick but, still pourable. Next, mix chopped mint with pureed strawberries. Fill ice cube trays with puree and place in the freezer until frozen.
In a large pitcher combine wine and orange liqueur. To serve pour Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon over infused ice cubes. Garnish with a sprig of mint. Espero que la disfrutes!
