Casual Outfits Ideas for The Everyday Mom
If there’s one thing, I can speak to, its practicality when it comes to everyday style. Since becoming a mom, my eye for what I consider style has greatly shifted. I find practicality in simple pieces and know that the perfect pair of fitting denim can make all the difference - here’s looking at you agolde. I rely on a handful of capsule outfits that I wear versions of almost daily. So many people feel that just because they are causal means that they lack a fashionable element. And to this, I beg to differ. In fact, I’d argue that the most polished individuals have the casual everyday style down science. Everyday mom Style - Core Outfits
Since we are now well into spring, I’ll focus more on seasonal pieces to add to your closet that you can build upon. Think of these pieces as the "base” of your look. If there’s one tip, I can offer to find pieces that you feel amazing in. That means knowing what sizing will flatter your body and make you feel confident. If that means sizing up, do it! Remember, not all brand sizing is consistent, so it may take some try-on sessions to find your best fit. I know that some of these pieces may get a bit of push-back, but I’m telling you, when you find your perfect fit, it’ll all fall into place!
Jumpsuit: Jumpsuits are perfect for those days when you don’t want to worry about finding an outfit that works. Soft rompers and jumpsuits can easily be dressed up or down and pair perfectly with an anorak or long cardigan. Z Supply is my go-to for the cozy cotton pieces that feel like butter on the skin. Belt them and accessories to take your outfit up a notch.
Anorak Jacket: Speaking of jackets, an anorak is a MUST in every casual wardrobe. Ever since living in San Francisco, it’s a jacket that has always been in my rotation. If your new to this style, I’d suggest purchasing an olive or dark green. This military-inspired hue pairs effortlessly with a variety of denim washes (including white!) and is also a favorite partner to a collection of basic and graphic tees. The lightweight style is perfect for layering and is convenient enough to toss into a bag without having to worry about a wrinkle factor (depends on fabric!)
Striped Sweater: Every casual closet has at least one go-to stripe printed sweater. Whether that be a 3/4-zip style, a crew-neck cut, or even a boatneck, a striped sweater is a must! Stripes are a print that many stray away from but, in reality, can pull together an outfit from looking sloppy to more streamlined. In the late spring and early summer pair this sweater with denim cut-offs or linen pants.
Linen Pants: In the summer I live for linen pants. I’d say my most repeated outfit during the late spring-early summer is a solid-colored bodysuit paired with wide-leg linen pants. It’s comfortable and effortless. Some of my favorite linen pants are by Madewell, and feature an elastic waist for added comfort, and really lend themselves to being extremely flattering on a variety of body shapes! Since true linen doesn’t have any stretch consider sizing up for a wide-leg fit that’s figure-flattering.
Bodysuit: If there’s one thing I’d strongly suggest finding (and purchasing multiples) it’s a high-quality bodysuit. I love the basic bodysuits by A&F and Free People. The fit on both is spot on and I fit them to be very true-to-size, which helps when online ordering.
T-Shirt Dress: Whether you opt for a midi-style T-shirt dress or a shorter length, this is another piece you’ll be reaching for consistently. I love T-shirt dresses for casual days of running errands, when I know I can throw on a pair of sneakers, a light denim jacket, and have a cute outfit that’s practical and also cute. If you’re looking for super soft material in a midi-length Splendid is your brand. Their fabrics are always silky soft and wash and wear very well! T-Shirt dresses give that off-duty style that easy to throw on for any occasion weekday or weekend!
